Girls Netball v Clevedon

Senior girls unlucky in close battles with Clevedon School

Wednesday 8th February

Year 10

Usually flooded with numbers, the Year 10 players found themselves in the unusual position of not having the full quota of players and had to borrow Eve Wilson from the year 11 side.  The conditions were cold and this had a detrimental effect on the play from both sides, with balls being dropped and passes going astray.  The St Kath’s side took an early lead, but the Clevedon side soon turned this around, putting pressure on the defence of Abby Mogg and Leesha Coleman.  Abbie made some vital interceptions which gave the centre court players the chance of attacking.  Bo Marshall worked hard to create attacking chances, but was marked well by her opposing GD.  Going into the final quarter Clevedon had a small lead, but a flurry of early goals, put a victory out of reach from the St Kath’s side, however a come back in the final minutes with some sharp shooting by Abbie Mogg gave for a close finish, but not quite close enough.  The final score was 15 – 13 to Clevedon and player of the match was voted as Lexi Fitzgerald.

Year 11

There was a tense build up prior to the match but the St Kath’s side started the game well.  Morgan McDonnel and Maddie Watts worked well to create scoring opportunities, however the play was end to end and Athea Heavens and Freya Gorely were worked hard in defence to keep the Clevedon attack away from goal.  The scoreline never strayed to far from each other with both teams changing the lead throughout.  Iso Molloy was a calming influence in the centre third, slowing play down and linked well with Macy Sealey and Ashleigh Wills.  In the 2nd half, the Clevedon side brought on a very tall GK, which hindered the attack from St Kath’s and made scoring more difficult.  The game was also full of missed passes and dropped balls, which was completely understandable in the freezing playing conditions.  In a frantic final quarter, Clevedon edged ahead and finished winners by 11 goals to 9.  Player of the match was voted as Maddie Watts.
