Girls Netball v Nailsea

Success all round for KS4 netball teams in double header!

Year 10

St Kath’s: 10 – 5 :Nailsea

Having had a mixed set of results in fixtures so far this term, it wasn’t looking good when regular Lexie Fitzgerald had to pull out of the fixture on the day with a back injury, however this didn’t deter the Year 10 team, who quickly regrouped, in a different formation to play the Nailsea side.

The first half started well for the St Kath’s side and the shooting duo of Lauren Dun and Bo Marshall were formidable in the attacking third, immediately securing a lead for St Kath’s and establishing a strong hold on the game.  Georgia Bennett, who usually would be more defensive was moved to centre and provided some great energy to keep or regain possession in the centre third, linking well with Megan Griffiths.

The Nailsea side weren’t without their chances but the St Kath’s defence were up to the challenge and were quick to close them down, giving them little chance to score.  Leesha Coleman picked out some great interceptions and was well backed up by Abbie Mogg as GK, whilst Louise Thomas provided some great balls out of defence back into the attacking third.

Overall a emphatic win and a great result against a strong school. Player of the match was voted as Bo Marshall.

Year 11

St Kath’s: 4 – 0 : Nailsea

Having narrowly missed out on a victory so far this season, the Year 11 team were keen to perform well in their final fixture before their tournament next week.  Plagued by injury and illness, the team had to rotate from some of their usual positions to fill the gaps, but they did this well.

The game was end to end and close throughout.  The St Kath’s defence was tested frequently and Freya Gorley had her work cut out following an active GS in the defensive end, but she was backed up well by and Oona Chanfi and Athea Heavens playing as GD.  Both teams had their chances but the defence generally came out better, bringing the ball back out into the centre third.  Ashleigh Wills had a busy game in centre and linked well with both attack and defence, despite suffering an injury.

Morgan McDonnell provided some support in the shooting circle in the second half and both her and Maddie watts managed to shoot on target to pull away from the Nailsea side and establish a good lead.  The final whistle went and the St Kath’s girls had earned their first victory, with Ashleigh Wills voted as player of the match.
