Students watch moving account from Holocaust survivor

Holocaust Memorial Day survivor webcast

To commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day on 27th January students from Years 11, 12 and 13 participated in a live webcast with holocaust survivor, Janine Webber this morning.

Organised by the Holocaust Educational Trust, Janine spoke of how her childhood in Lvov, Poland ended abruptly with the outbreak of World War Two in 1939. After occupation by both Russian and German forces, Janine and her family were forced to flee to escape persecution due to their Jewish heritage.

Janine’s harrowing account detailed how she was forced to hide whilst her mother, father, younger brother and many family members were killed. Her testimony provides us with a vital insight into the experience of individuals during the Holocaust and complements the work soon to be studied in Year 11 and 12 lessons.

Over the weekend of 2nd – 4th February a group of Year 12 and 13 students will be visiting Auschwitz-Birkenau to further develop their understanding of the Holocaust.
