U15 Girls Cricket SCB Semi Finals

Girls bow out to Writhlington in a nail biting finish

Having successfully qualified to the semi finals last month, the girls travelled to Keynesham Cricket Club to face notoriously strong Writhlington School.  With the U13 side, missing out on a win, we knew the competition would be tough.

Batting first, Ruby Webber and fay Morris opened the batting, knowing that runs would be vital Ruby got straight to work with a boundary in the first over, in fact Ruby reached the boundary a further 2 times in her innings, in which she was retired having made the maximum 22 runs.  Fay was dismissed with a great catch and Bo entered the crease.  Bo was later joined by Maisy Atkins who continued the batting partnership, Bo Marshall made an impressive 18 runs towards the St Kath’s total of 69 runs.

Bowling, Jazzy Pither opened the batting, with an impressive over, limiting the Writhlington side to 9 runs.  They knew they needed to make at least 10 runs per over to surpass the St Kath’s total. Maisy was next with only 8 off her over and giving the St Kath’s side a chance at just 17 runs off 2 overs.  Great bowling continued from Megan, Lauren and Fay and after 5 overs they the game was too close to call at 50 runs off 5, however the Writhlington side picked up a number of runs in the 6th over and this meant that the last very was crucial, with Writhlington only needing 3 runs to win.  Unfortunately with some breathing space with 6 balls they swung well at the ball and managed to score the required runs with just 3 balls to play.

A very close match, which also reflects the quality of the competition at this stage.  Writhlington now go on to play in the finals in July at Taunton CC.
