SKAMPS present £1,300 of new instruments to school

Huge thanks to SKAMPS (St Katherine’s Music Parent Supporters) for donating £1,300 of new musical instruments to the school.

SKAMPS are committed to promoting music education at the school and thanks to another successful year of fundraising and a generous grant from the Pill and Easton-in-Gordano Community Forum they presented the instruments to Ms Adams, Head of Music at a special school assembly.

The ten ukeleles, seven djembe drums, ten glockenspiels and two new radio wireless microphones add to the impressive list of instruments SKAMPS have given to the school over the years.

In total they have raised over £10,000 for equipment and instruments, including trombones, a saxophone, twelve flutes, a clarinet, African drums, nine keyboards, a digital piano, fifteen ukuleles, ten acoustic guitars, four electric guitars, a bass guitar and a new Yamaha piano.

They also use their funds to help pay for music tuition for talented students who may not be able to afford tuition fees.

Chair of SKAMPS, Rob Harvey said:

“We sincerely hope that pupils in the school will take up the opportunities that these instruments provide and be inspired to make music, whether it’s classical, jazz, rock… anything; as long as it’s musical!”

Justin Humphreys, Head of St Katherine’s School said:

“We believe music is an essential part of our students’ education and their development as young people so we are hugely grateful to SKAMPS for their support in enabling us to extend musical opportunities across the school.

“SKAMPS are an important part our school community and their fundraising means we can give students more chances to get involved in music and try our ever-growing collection of instruments.”

SKAMPS’ next fundraising event is their “A Night with the Stars” concert on Friday 22 June 7.00pm at St Katherine’s School.  Everyone is welcome to come along to enjoy the students’ musical talent and see some of the new instruments in action.   Tickets will be available from Pill Post Office and the St Katherine’s School Student Support Office and cost £5 for adults and £3 for students.
