All the basics at great prices

Borrowing

Up to 2 fiction, 2 non-fiction and 1 DVD at the same time. If the book you’d like is out, it can be reserved for you. Books are issued for 2 weeks, and DVDs for 1. If you bring something back late there will be a small fine of 1p per day to pay – this money is donated to charity. But you can renew to stop your book going overdue!

Behaviour

The library is a space for quiet reading, study and playing board games. Please show consideration to other users, and keep the noise level low. No food or drinks are allowed in the library. Poor behaviour may result in you being asked to leave.

Newspapers for Schools

We have signed up to use a website that holds archives for almost all national & local newspapers in the UK. This is the website link http://newslibrary.newspapersforschools.co.uk

Please see Ms Wyld for login information.

Book Groups

We have groups in years 7 -10 which meet once a term at lunchtime in the LRC. These are a great chance to try a different read, and then chat about it with other keen readers. Please come and ask Ms Wyld for more details.

Join our Manga Mania group every Monday lunchtime for Manga drawing fun.  This is a student-led group and you can drop in at any time.

Every year we shadow the Carnegie book award. This takes place during the Spring, and is a great chance to read some of the best fiction published and vote for your favourite.

Events & Competitions

We hold book events throughout the year, so keep an eye out for the next one!  We celebrate Roald Dahl Day each year with our year 7 students, and for the whole school we love World Book Day. Waterstone’s also come along every year with loads of books for our very own bookshop, with everything at a discounted price.

Author visits can be a truly inspiring experience, and we have been very lucky to host some well-known authors such as John Barrowman, Cathy Cassidy, Darren Shan, and of course ex-student Huw Powell.

Help

If you need help, ask Ms Wyld, she can advise on what books you’ve got out, help you with research, or with finding a great read.
